River Town Ball Clubs

Before televised games and billion-dollar stadiums, baseball in the Quad Cities lived in neighborhood ballparks along the Mississippi River. From the Davenport Brown Stockings of the 1870s to the Onion Weeders, Blue Sox, Islanders, and other hometown clubs that followed, generations of fans packed wooden grandstands to watch summer baseball played for pride, community, and the love of the game.
